The Opportunity
365 People are currently recruiting for an Assistant Transport Manager on behalf of a successful and growing logistics business based in Shepshed.
This is a newly created position designed to support the Transport Manager while providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to take ownership of both operational performance and driver management activities.
This role offers genuine progression potential and would suit either an existing Assistant Transport Manager or an experienced Senior Transport Planner or Transport Supervisor looking to take the next step in their career.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day management of a busy transport operation.
- Assist with transport planning and route optimisation.
- Monitor delivery performance, service levels, and operational KPIs.
- Manage drivers and support daily operational activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and streamline processes.
- Work closely with planning and operational teams to ensure customer requirements are achieved.
- Act as a key point of contact between drivers, planners, and management.
Driver Management Responsibilities
- Address performance concerns and operational issues with drivers.
- Manage day-to-day behavioural and conduct matters.
- Investigate discrepancies including fuel usage, vehicle care, and operational compliance.
- Support formal performance management and disciplinary processes when required.
- Promote high standards of professionalism, accountability, and safety throughout the driver workforce.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience within a transport, logistics, or distribution environment.
- Experience within transport planning, traffic operations, transport supervision, or transport management.
- Strong people management and communication skills.
- Confidence to challenge behaviours and hold individuals accountable when required.
- A commercial mindset with the ability to identify operational improvements.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively within a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive, hands-on approach to leadership.
Desirable
- Experience managing drivers and operational performance.
- Knowledge of transport planning systems and logistics operations.
Not Essential
- CPC qualification is not required.
- This is not a compliance-focused role; the emphasis is on operational performance, efficiency, and people management.
