Position Overview

Pay: £12.21 per hour 

The PCBA Technician will be responsible for assembling, soldering, inspecting, and testing printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) with a primary focus on through‑hole technology. This role supports the production of high‑quality electrical products for a specialist manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience in electronic assembly, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work to industry standards and customer specifications.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble PCBAs using through‑hole components according to engineering drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.

• Perform manual soldering to IPC standards.

• Operate wave soldering equipment where required.

• Carry out component preparation, including cropping, forming, and kitting.

• Inspect assemblies for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.

• Identify and correct assembly faults, including rework and repair.

• Follow ESD‑safe working practices at all times.

• Assist with functional testing, continuity checks, and basic fault‑finding.

• Maintain accurate production records and update job travellers or digital systems.

• Work collaboratively with production supervisors, engineers, and quality teams.

• Support continuous improvement activities within the assembly area.

 

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in PCBA assembly, specifically through‑hole technology.

• Strong manual soldering skills; IPC certification desirable.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and assembly

 

 

documentation.

• Familiarity with wave soldering processes is an advantage.

• Good understanding of ESD controls and safe handling of electronic components.

• Competent in using hand tools, soldering irons, and basic test equipment (multimeters, continuity testers).

• High level of dexterity and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced production environment.

 

Qualifications

• NVQ, BTEC, or equivalent qualification in electronics or electrical engineering (preferred but not essential).

• IPC‑A‑610 or IPC‑7711/7721 certification beneficial.
